Veritas Wheel Marking Gauge Micro Adj
Description
Veritas Code 05N35.10
Non graduated model (no measuring scale)
Veritas' standard micro-adjustable wheel marking gauge is a great workhorse and excellent value. Its popularity led to the development of a second model that incorporates a micro-adjust feature.
It is similar to Veritas' standard wheel marking gauge with an anodized aluminum body; brass face; stainless-steel rod and internal O-ring to keep a constant light friction force on the rod. It differs in that the body is slightly longer and is fitted with a two-stage collet that allows micro-adjustment of the cutting wheel. he collet has a fine-pitch thread; one revolution advances or retracts the wheel 1/32", a half turn 1/64", a quarter turn 1/128", etc. The knurled thumbscrew then locks the setting.
The hardened steel wheel cuts wood fibers rather than tears them; which leaves a clean mark; even on cross grain. The wheel's single-sided bevel also forces the gauge face against the stock; maintaining accuracy. The cutting edge of the wheel is at the extreme end of the shaft; which is useful for transferring dimensions such as tenon shoulder and mortise depth. The wheel retracts into the face of the gauge for storage and protection. The gauges are very easy to set, since each has an internal O-ring to keep light but constant friction on the rod.
