Veritas Block Plane - Low Angle, PMV-11
Description
Veritas Code 05P22.71
Description
This is the best low angle block plane on the market; hands down. Its higher side wings are ideal for shooting and the multiple finger grips on each side provide optimal control. The combined blade advance and lateral adjustment is more sensitive and more accurate than any other adjustment mechanism. This is further maximised by two blade guide screws that prevent blade shifting.
The adjustable nosepiece does not extend beyond the body - this means that it cannot be driven back into a sharp blade by an unexpected knock.
With a 6inch (150mm) x 2inch (50mm) wide body made from ductile cast iron; it can take hard knocks without cracking. All of the machining is done to a high level of accuracy within Veritas' factory.
The accurately milled sides and sole are surface-ground to a high degree of finish. It has the usual low bed angle (12 degrees in this case) and compact size of other low angle block planes.
Features and Benefits
* 6-3/8" long and 2" wide; body made of ductile cast iron
* Combined blade advance and lateral adjust is sensitive and accurate
* Two blade guide screws prevent shifting of blade
* Adjustable nosepiece does not extend beyond body; can't accidentally be driven back into a sharp blade
* Wide wings, multiple finger grips and accurately machined 90° angle between the sole and the sides make plane ideal for shooting
* 12° bed angle of plane and 25° bevel angle of blade combine to result in a 37° cutting angle
* Blade is 1-5/8" wide, 1/8" thick, made of A2 tool steel and lapped on non-bevel side to flatness tolerance of 0.0002" or better over the working surface; average roughness surface finish of 5 microinches (0.000005") or better
* Can be used with optional ball tail and front knob to convert plane to a low-angle smoothing plane, albeit smaller
